  1. Remove four magnets (31) from screen tube assembly (29). Repeat for the remaining screen tube assembly (29) .

  1. Remove 17 bolts (32) .
  1. Remove 18 bolts (33) and the washers.
  1. Use the hoist to remove transmission case (34) from the transfer gear case. The weight of transmission case (34) is 272 kg (600 lb).

Note: Mark the transmission planetary for assembly purposes.

  1. Remove O-ring seal (35) from the transfer case assembly.

  1. Remove four bolts (36) from drive adapter (37). Use two 3/8 in NC forcing screws to remove drive adapter (37) from the planetary carrier.

  1. Use Tool (D) to remove retaining ring (38) from the planetary carrier.

  1. Use Tooling (E) to remove ball bearing (39) from the planetary carrier.

  1. Remove 24 bolts (40) and the washers in order to remove baffle (41) from the end housing assembly.

  1. Remove 12 locking bolts (42) and the washers.
  1. Remove ring (43), oil slinger (44), and the gasket (not shown) from the planetary carrier.

  1. Install Tooling (F) to end housing assembly (45). Attach Tooling (F) to a suitable lifting device and a sling.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

  1. Remove two bolts (46). Use Tooling (F) and the hoist in order to remove end housing assembly (45) from the planetary carrier. The weight of end housing assembly (45) is 34 kg (75 lb).

  1. If necessary, remove ball (47) from end housing assembly (45) .

  1. Remove six springs (48), six pins (49), six springs (50), and six dowels (51) from clutch housing (52) .

  1. Remove six friction discs (53) and five clutch plates (54) from clutch housing (52) .
