1. Put the stress on the last syllable when you deal with numbers 13-19

thirteen, eighteen

2. Put the stress on the first syllable dealing with 20, 30, 40 etc.

fifty, ninety

3. Always put a hyphen after the tens

thirty-three; fifty-nine

4. The words hundred, thousand, million, billion are always in singular. Put commas to emphasize thousands, millions when writing in figures, add  and after hundred

4,000 – four thousand, 2,768,098 – two million seven hundred and sixty-eight thousand ninety-eight

5. To make an ordinal number we add the suffix –th

The seventieth, the sixty-fifth

but one – the first, two – the second, three – the third

6. After the point in decimal fractions we read figures one by one

29.074 – twenty-three point nought (oh) seven four

0.001– nought (oh) point nought (oh) nought (oh) one

0 – zero, nil

7. Read years in two figures. Read two thousand (and …) from 2000 to 2009

1900 – nineteen hundred,

1999 – nineteen ninety-nine,

1809 – nineteen oh nine,

2005 – two thousand and five

8. For a common fraction read the numerator as a cardinal number and the denominator as an ordinal number, don't forget to make the Plural of the denominator if the numerator is greater than 1

½ – a half,

1/3 – a third,

¼ – a quarter,

¾ - three-quarters

3/7  – three sevenths

8/100 – eight hundredths

1 1/6 – one and a sixth

9. Read the power as follows

52 – five squared

63 – six cubed

75 – seven to the fifth power

10. Read the phone numbers as follows

067-366-09-17 – oh six seven – three double six – oh nine – one seven

050-922-23-34 oh five oh – nine double two – two three – three four
