Theatres. Cinemas and Concert Halls in London

There are more than 50 theatres in the West End of London. And many other small theatres and theatre clubs are in Greater London. Some of the plays and shows last for a few weeks, some go on for years. Many of the shows which go on in the West End are light comedies, but some theatres put on more serious plays. One of the leading companies is the Royal Shakespeare Company,at the Aldwych [' r3:ldwitf] Theatre. There they put on new and old plays, and some Shakespearian plays.

The National Theatre is also very famous. The building is modem, and the plays are classics and new productions.

There are many cinemas in London. Some cinemas show lots of comedies and long epic films. Other cinemas show a large number of continental films or films for young people. Some cinemas show films in the afternoon, early evening and late evening. Others have continues programmes from about two o'clock in the afternoon. You can buy tickets in most large stores and hotels.
