Упражнение № 1

McDonalds the fast food giant, is testing a new policy: all business is local the company is decentralizing marketing and decision-making.

You cant manage 25,000 restaurants in a centralized way, says Jack Greenberg, the Chief Executive.

Year-end results show foreign sales and profit up by 10%. In the US, profit was up by 13%.

McDonalds гигант быстрого питания, проверяет новую политику: весь бизнес является местным, компания децентрализует маркетинг и принятие решения.

25.000 менеджеров управляют ресторанами централизованным способом – говорит руководитель Джек Гринберг.

Результаты на конец года превышают иностранные продажи и прибыль на 10%. В США, прибыль была 13%.

Упражнение № 2

This is Nicolas Hayek, the founder and President of SMN. SMN is a Swiss watch manufacturer. Its head office is in Zurich, Switzerland. It employs 14,000 people. There are twelve companies in the group. They include Tissot, Omega, and Swatch.

The company’s most famous product is the Swatch watch. The Swatch has a quartz mechanism but only fifty-one parts.

Nicolas Hayek was sixty-five last year, but he has no plans to retire. But it is not ‘all work and no play’ for Mr. Hayek. When he has free time he plays a lot of tennis, sometimes with his friend Jean-Paul Belmondo, the French actor.

1. Our company has built a new factory in Madrid. It is about 20 km from the airport.

2. To get to the manager’s office go through this corridor and turn left at the end.

3. My office is very noisy because it is near the canteen.

4. There are three red files on my desk at my office. Could you get them?

5. I usually go to work  by train. How about you?

6. She takes her main holiday in the summer.

7. Most days she works from 8.30 to 5.30.

8. She has lunch at 12.30 and 2.00.

9. She does not get home at 7.00. 

10. She does not work on the weekend.

11. She deals with her mail for about an hour.

12. We invested $ 3 000 in company shares.

13. We sold our subsidiary to an Eastern investor.

14. We made a big profit from our European activities last year.       

15. They spend a lot of money on software.

Упражнение № 4.

Quite a lot of customers commented on our improved delivery service, and quite a few people rated us very highly on this. When we asked how much effect our new charges had on them, only few companies said they thought the increases were too high. There were not many firms who had regularly had incorrect deliveries, so there were not a lot of complaints about that. We got quite a lot of information about how many orders various people think they’ll be putting in over the next six months so that we can be prepared. It appears that we won’t have much time to deliver some of these orders, but with just much more training in the new system, our staff should be able to cope.

Довольно много клиентов прокомментировали нашу улучшенную службу доставки, и довольно много человек оценили нас очень высоко. Когда мы спросили, как сильно на них повлияла наша новая служба, только немного компаний сказали, что они думали, что увеличения были слишком высоки. Было не много фирм, которые регулярно имели не допоставки, таким образом не было бы жалоб об этом. Мы получили довольно много информации о том, сколько люди думают заказывать, что они будут включать за следующие шесть месяцев так, чтобы мы могли быть готовы
