VIII.    Results of Research

1. Use of  nouns result (on, of), findings (on), data (on, concerning, as to) evidence (for, of, on, concerning, that), fact ,etc.

2. Use of  certain verbs obtain, give, present, provide, report, check, test, verify, treat, collect, summarize, sum up, search for, find, extend to with the a.m. nouns,  describing results.

e.g.      New data on (concerning) the behavior of the substance were obtained.

There is no evidence as to the exact behavior of the compound in the diluted solvent.

3. Use of  adjectives with the a.m. nouns  simple, complicated, accurate, exact, satisfactory, preliminary, final, contradictory, convincing, important, essential, marked, obvious, distinct, certain.

e.g.      We obtained the exact result.

Preliminary data seem to contradict  the first suppositions.

4. Use of  certain words and word combinations, stating the data/info on which  the research is based: on the basis of, according to, in terms of, etc.

e.g.      Calculations are made on the basis of (according to) a new method.

The data are interpreted on the basis of (from, according to, in terms of) a new model.

5. Use of  certain words and word combinations, stating the previous works and studies on which  the research is based: assume, make an assumption, assuming, on the assumption that, on the hypothesis, consider, take into account, take into consideration etc.

e.g.      We made use of the results of the previous studies in the field, under the assumption that all Li+ ions are octahedral.

Formulae are presented considering (taking into account) the statistics of such measurements.

6. Use of  certain nouns and verbs, stating the relation of your findings with others: agreement, correlation, disagreement, agree with, show agreement with, disagree with, be in disagreement with, etc.

e.g.      There is an agreement (a correlation, a disagreement) between the results obtained and the data given in the paper of  Prof.M.  and his colleagues.

Our results show good agreement with the theoretical predictions.

IX.       Conclusions

1. Use of  specific words and word combinations: conclude, make/draw/reach a conclusion, come to the conclusion that, from the results it is concluded that it may be noted that, it may be stated that, thus, therefore, consequently, as a result, etc.

e.g.      A general conclusion is made (can be made) concerning (as to) the equilibrium shape of crystals.

2. Use of specific words and word combinations to suggest further usage  and applications of the acquired results: propose, suggest, recommend, make a suggestion as to how (when, where, what), it is suggested that (smth.) should be done, it is necessary to do smth., etc.

e.g.      Better technique is suggested by the autjrs.

The (un)expected result suggests the existence of contractive proteins.

The diluted solution is suggested to be used.

It is necessary that a more thorough study of the phenomenon should be done.

It is  suggested that ... . Our experience indicates that ... .
