VI.  Main Characteristics of Subject & Procedure

1. Use of  nouns and word combinations: feature, characteristic, peculiarity, be characteristic of, be typical of, have  (some property, feature), etc.

e.g.      The peculiarity of the compound is its high sensitivity.

High sensitivity is characteristic (is typical) of the compound.

2. Use of  adjectives to specify the a.m. nouns:  important, most important, main, chief, basic, essential, notable, specific, unique, etc.

e.g.      The unique characteristic of this polymer is the linear structure of its  chain.

The remarkable characteristic of the resulting compound is its resistance to aging  and specific electrical insulating properties.

3. Use of  verbs to have, to show, to exhibit, to reveal, to demonstrate + nouns denoting characteristic actions.  

e.g.      The polymer obtained shows (exhibits) the following peculiarities.

The samples exhibit (show, reveal) high resistivity.

The rise in absorption showed no relation to the number of impurities.

4. Use of  verbs to contain, to include, to comprise, to consist of, to provide, to follow, to give, describing parts, operations, stages, actions.  

e.g.      The process involved heating and was followed by quick cooling.

The Fe3+ spectrum comprises a group of five lines.

5. Use of  adverbs first, second, then, after that, afterwards, finally, describing parts, operations, stages, actions.  

e.g.      Then the quantitative analysis is provided.

Finally the substance is washed, dried and weighed.


VII.     Evaluation & Merits of Research

1. Use of  nouns advantage, merit, limitation, disadvantage, drawback,etc.

2. Use of  adjectives with the a.m. nouns  fundamental, chief, main, great, important, essential, marked, obvious, distinct, certain, describing merits and serious, severe, some, slight, describing drawbacks.  

3. Use of  certain verbs have, present, offer with the a.m. nouns,  describing merits

e.g.      The approach has (presents, offers) certain (important, several) advantages.

The conclusion is made that these mixtures have several advantages over others.

4. Use of  certain verbs have, suffer, put, set, impose, with the a.m. nouns, describing drawbacks.

e.g.      The method has (suffers) three limitations.

Many factors put (impose, set) limitations (restrictions) on the design.

5. Use of  certain words and word combinations describing faults and errors: error, source of error, within experimental error, be in error by some factor, error due to, errors arise due to ( from, as a result of).

e.g.      Within experimental error the signals may vary as predicted..

Errors are due to certain impurities present.

6. Use of  certain words and word combinations, describing importance and applications: be of importance, be of interest, be of value, be of service, find practical application, etc.

e.g.      The samples were examined and shown to be greatly interesting for future research..

The results obtained for both ketones studied are found to be very valuable for further research.
