I’m in the shop. I’m at the railway station. I’m in the airport, and I need to get to the city center. I don’t know how to get to the university campus (Диалоги из жизненных ситуаций)

1. I’m in the shop. I’d like to pay for a purchase. So I’ll ask a shop assistant: Excuse me sir, could you tell me where the cash-desk is, please? And how can I pay for a suit in cash or by cr. card?

2. I’m at the railway station.  And my train is going to leave.  And the left luggage counter clerk is very slow. So I’ll say: Excuse me sir, could you give me my luggage as soon as possible, please, because I can miss my train.

3. I was charged (asked) to buy smth for first aid kit. So I’ll go to the nearest drugstore (chemists) and say:  Could you give me some tablets of aspirin, plaster, antiseptics, cotton wool, bandages and antibiotics please?

4. I’ve got a terrible headache (toothake). So, I go to the nearest drugstore) and say: “Excuse me, sir, I have got a splitting. Could you recommend me something for it? Could you give me smth to relief my pain please? “

 5. I was explained how to get to the railway station, but I’m not sure, if I’m going the right way. So, I’ll ask a passer-by: “Excuse me, sir! Could you tell me, (how to get to the railway station, please? ) (where railway station is situated?)( is this a right way to the railway station?)”

6. I’m in the airport, and I need to get to the city center. So I’ll ask a passer-by: “Could you tell me, where is the bus stop for the city center is, please?”

7. I’ve got a cough, a runny nose and a sore throat. “So, I’ll go to the nearest drugstore and say: Could you give me a cough mixture , nasal drops and  a throat gargle please?”

8.  I felt an upset stomach on the way to the university. So, I’ll Go to the nearest drugstore and ask: “I’ve got stomach disorder(food poisoning), could you give me something to relief the pain?”

9. I’m being introduced to the members of the department (laboratory), with whom I’m going to work. So, I’ll say: “Hello, how do you do? Nice to meet you”

10. I’ve heard a lot about this scientist works. I would like to get to know him personally. So, I’ll asked my colleague (who knows him well): “ Excuse me, could you introduce me to professor Brown.”

11. I’d like to introduce my girlfriend to another person(a friend of mine).  So, I’ll say: Jack, meet my girlfriend- Masha. (This is...)

12. My conversation partner said something, but I didn’t understand it.

So, I’ll say: I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch what you’re said, could you repeat it, please?

13. My friend asking me: “How are you?” and I answer: “Not bad, thanks, and you?” (or “How do you do?” “Im fine, and how do you do?”)

14. I’m in a café. I making my order.

So, I’ll said to the waiter: I would like to have coffee with milk and without sugar.

15. I was invited to my foreign colleague’s.

I’m taking leave now, so I’ll say: It was nice to meet you, thank you for the lovely evening.

16. I’m talking leave of  my colleague, whom I have known before (for sometimes). So, I’ll say: “It was nice to see you again. I hope to see you soon. Take care. Goobye.

 17. I’m in the street. I’m looking for a bus stop. So, I’ll ask a passer-by. “Excuse me, sir(madam), could you tell me if bus №5 stops here.”( “Is it the bus stop for №5?”) (“Does bus №5 stop here?”)

18. I’m in a hurry, and I can’t continue the conversation.

So, I’ll say: “Sorry, I must be off now”. (“I’m awfully sorry, but I’ve got to go now”) (“I’m in a bit of a hurry”) (“I think I would better go now”)

19. I would like to have a snack, but I don’t know where to do it.

So I’ll ask a passer-by: Excuse me, sir, could you tell me where the nearest café or restaurant is, please?

20. I’ve just arrived in the GB (the USA), and I must explain the purpose of my visit to the immigration control officer.

So I’ll say: I’m on business here.

(I’m at the invitation of my friends(relatives))

21. I’m quening up. And I see an elderly person behind me. Like any polite person, I’ll say:”Go ahead madam, please.” Only after you, madam(sir).

22. Someone pushed me in the shop.

So I turn around and say: “Oh, I’m sorry.”

23. I’m in a cafe. I’d like to take my food (have a packed lunch) with me. But I do not know whether I can do it.

So, I’ll ask: “ I would like take my food with me” “Could you packed forme? Have you got any take-away service?”

24. I’m in an unknown part of the city. I’d like to get to the nearest shopping-center.

So, I’ll ask a passer-by: Excuse me sir would you tell me how to get to the shopping-center? (Could you tell me the way to the nearest shopping-center?

25. I don’t know how to get to the university campus, to the supermarket, to the chemists, to the… So, I’ll ask a passer-by:” Excuse me, sir, could you tell me how I can get (to walk( to drive))  to the university campus, to the supermarket, to the chemists, to the…
