Safety Precautions

1. Overview

This section introduces part of safety precautions which should be followed during the installation and maintenance of Huawei-developed network equipment, etc.

& Note:

Before any operation is performed, please read the operation instructions and precautions carefully so as to reduce the possibility of accident occurrence. The Advice, Caution, Warning and Danger items in respective manuals do not cover all safety precautions which should be followed, and are only the supplementaries of safety precautions for respective operations. Therefore, the personnel who are in charge of the installation and maintenance of Huawei-developed products must have these basic safety operation knowledge, they should be trained and to master the correct operating methods and have the qualification of performing corresponding operations.

When performing various operations, please follow the local safety regulations. The safety precautions introduced in manuals are only used as the supplementaries to the local safety regulations.

When various operations are performed on Huawei company's products and equipment, the precautions and special safety instructions of the related equipment provided by Huawei Co. must be followed strictly.

The personnel who are in charge of the installation and maintenance of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. products must be trained strictly to master the proper operating methods and learn various safety precautions, then they are allowed to perform such equipment operations as installation, maintenance and so on.

1.1 Sign Description

The signs quoted in this article are shown in the following table, which are used to remind the reader of the safety precautions which should be followed during the operations such as installation and maintenance etc..

Safety suggestions are classified into the following levels: Danger, Warning, Caution and Advice.

Danger: Indicating that fatal accident may occur if the safety cautions are ignored.

Warning: Indicating that major accident or severe injury may occur, or equipment may be damaged if the safety cautions are ignored.

Caution: Indicating that severe injury may occur or equipment may be damaged if the safety cautions are ignored.

Advice: Indicating that injury event may occur, or equipment may be damaged if the safety cautions are ignored.

Safety Signs

Meanings

Common alarm sign: suggesting general safety items regulations

Antistatic sign: suggesting that equipment is sensitive to electrostatic

Caution sign for electric shock: suggesting high dangerous voltage danger

Caution sign for microwave: suggesting high-intensity strong electromagnetic field

Caution sign for laser: suggesting strong laser beam

2. Electricity Safety

2.1 High Voltage

 Danger

High voltage power supply offers electric power for equipment operation, and direct contact or indirect contact (via damp objects) with high voltage and commercial power may result in fatal danger.

n  During the installation of equipment with AC power supply, the local safety regulations must be followed and the personnel who install AC facility must have the qualification of operation for high voltage and AC.

n  Strictly prohibit to wear easy conducting articles, such as watch, hand chain, bracelet and ring, etc. during operation.

n  When water is found in cabinet or the cabinet is damp, please switch off the power supply immediately.

n  When operation is performed in the damp environment, operator should prevent water from entering equipment.

 Warning

Non-standard and improper operation for high voltage may result in the accidents of fire hazard and electric shock. Therefore, bridge joint of AC cable and routing through a specific area must follow the local rules and regulations, and the personnel who perform high voltage operation should have the qualification of operation for high voltage and AC.

2.2 Power Cable

 Advice

Hot-line installation and removal of power cable is prohibited strictly. Transient contact between power cable core and conductor may generate electrospark or electric arc, resulting in fire hazard or eye injury.

n  Before power cable is installed or removed, power switch must be turned off.

n  Before cable is connected, it must be confirmed whether the cable and label accord with the requirement of actual installation.

2.3 Tools

 Warning

During high voltage and AC operations, special tools should be used, it is not permitted to use common tools or any tools carried by yourself.

2.4 Drilling

 Warning

Strictly prohibit to drill on the cabinet without permission. Drilling not satisfy the requirement may damage the wire and cable inside the cabinet; and if the metal chill produced during drilling falls into the cabinet, it may result in short-circuit of circuit board.

n  If it is necessary to drill hole, isolation protection glove must be worn and the cable inside the cabinet should first be removed.
