Intro.
Everyone nowadays has to keep moving as it is an essential condition of a person’s productive life. Transportation system is to help a person get around the city. And in this city it copes with this task completely.
Public transport in Minsk comprises several means of transport like buses, trolleybuses, trams and metro, which are basically interchangeable. So problems with one means of transport don’t make all traffic come to a standstill.
As well as in other cities taxies are at your disposal, they may deliver you to any destination in a very short time. Furthermore it’s much more comfortable than any other means of transport. For instance, you don’t have to squeeze onto an overcrowded bus and be packed like sardines there. As a result, you have to pay more in taxi, but comfort costs money. In London taxi system is introduced by cabbies – old-fashioned cars, provided by the government, as a symbol of London. In fact it should attract tourist’s attention and I think it really does. When hailing a cab, you can be absolutely sure that the driver will deliver you the best way, because every cabbie’s driver has to take The Knowledge – a test on knowledge the fastest and shortest route in London. Cabbies are traditionally tipped.
The most popular means of transport in the world as well as in Minsk is metro. It includes 25 stations on 2 lines. In fact, Minsk metro has plenty of advantages: it is quite comfortable there at any season – cool in summer and warm in winter, the fare is rather reasonable and it’s also very fast – you can get from one side of the city to another in some 25 minutes. Moreover, it works from early morning till late at night, circulating with predictable frequency. On the contrary, the London underground called the tube , because it looks like a long, narrow and dimly lit tube, was not pleasant to travel at. The tube is the first underground in the world; it began its operation in 1863. But I believe that the underground has become more comfortable recently. It transports more than 3 million people a day between 270 stations. Nowadays you'll see that it’s impossible to get lost in the city because there'll be an underground station close by. The essential difference of London's metro is that the fares are not fixed, but proportional to the distance traveled. There are no drivers on the trains. They are controlled by computer programmes. But every train has a train ‘captain’ on board in case there are any problems. Both underground transport systems have the same main problem: overcrowded carriage.
What concerns the over ground transport; the major peculiarity of London's traffic is that it keeps to the left and not to the right as in most countries. London is also famous for red double-deckers. It’s not a very significant solution, but it really appeals to tourists. . You usually pay according to the distance you want to travel. There’re two types of bus stops in London: compulsory and optional ones, whilst in Minsk a bus comes to a standstill at every stop.
