At the cinema
Cinema is perhaps the most wide spread kind of art all over the world. It is one of the most common entertainments, film actors are worldwide famous stars. This fact results in huge box offices, which makes the cinema industry rather profitable. Nevertheless special effects, star studded cast, advertisement – all that is practically useless without good plot and direction.
As for me I don’t consider cinema the greatest of all arts, but it definitely plays a significant role in a variety of pastimes of a modern human being. It is more widespread and accessible than visiting a picture gallery or a theatre, though the latter is a bit more impressive I think.
The cinema has been one of the greatest inventions ever. The first movie The Arrival of the Mail Train shot by brothers Lumière had an enormous impression on the people who saw it. Naturally, in 1895 it was really stunning. The motion picture of the steam locomotive arriving at the train station made the audience scream and run to the back of the room. The era of the cinema began.
Plenty of things have changed since then. First the films became sounded, then the picture became coloured, its quality was increasing. Finally, truly vivid high definition picture is also available in 3-D, the technology that enhances the illusion of depth perception helps to get the most pleasure of watching a film.
I like watching films, though it’s quite difficult to cater for my taste. Luckily, there are many talented actors who make even the most unpretentious (simple) films quite exciting.
The last film I saw at the cinema was the sequel of Sherlock Holmes directed by Guy Ritchie. I adore the novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, furthermore the first film turned out a great one. That’s why I expected really a lot from viewing it.
After having seen a poster I immediately decided that I would go to this film. Critic reviews were mainly positive and that made me even more concerned about watching Sherlock Holmes.
The cinema theatre I chose was “Belarus”. It is a multiplex which was opened relatively recently and is considered one of the best in Minsk.
By the time I went to the cinema Sherlock Holmes had been very popular with the public, but fortunately I came to the cinema beforehand. There was a huge queue in front of the box-office; in the end I managed to get the tickets only for one of the rear rows because the hall was overcrowded.
As usual before the viewing the advertising trailer had started. I’m aware, some people dislike them, but I’m easy with that, moreover it is an opportunity to find out what interesting films are gonna be on soon. Few minutes later, the lights were turned off and the film began. It was full of action and starring Robert Downey Jr. is notable for his well-deserved praise for the role of Sherlock Holmes. The actor manages to convey his character of a genius but eccentric detective very convincingly.
Though the film itself wasn’t very plausible (probable), it leaves a good impression due to special effect and curious plot. The cinema is equipped by comfortable stadium seats and a modern Dolby sound system, which makes the watching really nice.
Going to the cinema is a very accessible way of spending your spare time in this country. Besides, it’s a pretty affordable entertainment.
