Guidelines for short term visits (Ex-agreement) to the UK from the former Soviet Union
Selection Procedure
Applications to host ex-agreement visitors at times may exceed the funds available and under these circumstances priority will be given to those applications which can be expected to yield the most benefits to the UK host institution and the sending institution as well as to science generally. The applying host should explain clearly and concisely the main purposes of the visit and the prospective benefits to the visitor, host organisation and to their respective scientific communities.
Faxed proposals are not acceptable and no part of the application may be submitted via email. No submission should be sent until complete.
Funding
The award covers accommodation and subsistence, but not research expenses, bench fees or support for accompanying dependants. The award is not liable to income tax. A contribution towards international travel will be made and funding may be available for subsidiary scientific visits and/or conferences in the UK.
Referee Statement
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the referee statement is completed by a Fellow of the Royal Society or a leading authority in the relevant field who is well acquainted with the UK applicant’s and/or the visitor’s work and willing to act as a referee. The primary consideration in selecting a referee is that he/she is able to comment independently and authoritatively on the application. The referee must not be the UK host’s Head of Department, nor a member of the Royal Society’s Council, nor a member of the Royal Society Panel assessing these applications.
Reports
It is a condition of Royal Society awards that a report be submitted by the UK host on completion of a visit by an overseas scientist.
Closing dates
1 February and 1 September
