MUSIC.

People seem to spend a lot of time listening to music. It’s something that we all really enjoy.

If we asked to explain the purpose our immediate reply might be to give pleasure, it would not be far from the truth. But we can also define music as «expression in sound», expression of our thoughts and feelings.

Music is a part of our living, it is everywhere: at home at a concert hall, at the seaside and even in the forest. It has a power to awaken in us sensations and emotions of spiritual kind. Music appeals to our hearts and minds and arouses various emotions from deep nostalgy to extreme happiness.

The Beatles, Johnny Halliday, Elvis Presley – all names from the days when everybody knew what music they liked, and everyone  liked the same music. But what about music of today?

On the whole, nowadays, there’s a broad variety of music one can choose from: rap and rock, heavy metal and reggae, country and western, folk and opera, funk and jazz, techno and blues, soul and middle-of-the-road. Without doubt tastes differ, but each type of music has it’s faithful admirers.

Some people don’t like recent music, they stick to the opinion that it’s impossible to understand it and to love the irritating noise it makes. They prefer classical music, find opera quite thrilling and admire Pavarotti and Domingo.

Others cousider  classical music to be incredibly boring and depressing and prefer listening to the relaxing songs of Adriano Celentano or Julio Iglesias. The admirers of the singers believe that the music is more important that the music is more important than the lyrics and it doesn’t matter what the singer is saying.

For some people Elvis Presley and the Beatles are still the greatest. These people adore nostalgic tunes of the sixties and seventies- the golden age of rock music. They suppose there are no great groups today, which are likely to be around in twenty years time. In their opinion, modern rock groups can’t play their own instruments. In fact, it’s all done in the studio.

Some people are really mad about jazz. There are so many new exciting jazz bands around today so they never get bored of it.

A lot of young people are crazy about techno or get very excited when they listen to heavy metal. One may love rap and get a bit annoyed listening to opera. Another may bedelighted with the concert of classical music and detest pop.

There’s too much choice these days and no one can possible keep up to datewith all the new bands.

There’s always plenty to listen to and everyone chooses music in accordance with their tastes and interests.

If in a new company you want to create a friendly atmosphere and help people feel relaxed, there’s a universal thing that is likely to interest everybody. And it’s music.
