A.3.1  TPS Configuration for E1/T1 Service

The protection board is in slot 1 and the protected boards are in slots 2 to 5, or slots 13 to 16. Figure A-2 shows the1:N (N£8) tributary protection switching (TPS) configuration for E1/T1 services.

A.3.2  TPS Configuration for E3/DS3 Service

When the protection board is in slot 2, the protected boards are in slots 3, 4, and 5. When the protection board is in slot 16, the protected boards are in slots 13, 14, and 15. The TPS configuration shown in Figure A-3 realizes a pair of 1:N (N£3) TPS protection.

A.3.3  TPS Configuration for E4 Service

The TPS configuration for E4 service is the same as that of E3/DS3 service. When the protection board is in slot 2, the protected boards are in slots 3, 4, and 5. When the protection board is in slot 16, the protected boards are in slots 13, 14, and 15.The TPS configuration shown in Figure A-4 realizes a pair of 1:N (N£3) TPS protection.

The SPQ4 board and MU04 board can access E4 signals, STM-1 signals or both of them at the same time.

A.3.4  TPS Configuration for STM-1 Service (Electrical Signal)

The TPS configuration of STM-1 service is the same as that of E3/DS3 and E4 service. When the protection board is in slot 2, the protected boards are in slots 3, 4, and 5; when the protection board is in slot 16, the protected boards are in slots 13, 14, and 15. The TPS configuration of STM-1 electrical signal shown in Figure A-5 realizes a pair of 1:N (N£3) TPS protection.

A.3.5  TPS Configuration for 10M/100M Ethernet Services

The TPS configuration of 10M/100M Ethernet service is the same as that of E3/DS3, and E4 services. At present, 1:1 TPS protection can only be performed on the EFS0 board. The OptiX OSN 3500 supports 1:1 TPS protection for two groups of Ethernet services.

n  The protection slot is slot 2 and the protected slot is slot 3.

n  The protection slot is slot 16 and the protected slot is slot 15.

Figure A-6 shows two groups of 1:1 TPS protection for Ethernet service.

A.3.6  TPS Configuration for Hybrid Services

The OptiX OSN 3500 supports TPS for hybrid services and supports co-existence of three types of TPS. Presented below is a protection example for a hybrid service.

n  E1/DS1 services: the protection slot is slot 1, the protected slots are slots 4 and 5.

n  E3/DS3 services: the protection slot is slot 2, the protected slot is slot 3.
