Надводные силы флотов. Война., страница 3

The antisubmarine warfare armament of the 1155 design ship is the most developed type of armament. It comprises a unique sonar system and ASW system whose missiles are known for the high probability of hitting submarines. The 533-mm torpedo tubes are intended to defeat enemy submarines and surface ships at close and medium ranges with the aid of multipurpose homing torpedoes. To destroy hostile submarines in a close zone and at low depths and engage incoming torpedoes, the ship is armed with two rocket launchers RBU-6000.

The ship's air defense armament includes two multichannel automated autonomous air defense missile systems, Klinok. The Klinok system is capable of repelling the mass attack of low-flying high-speed antiship missiles at a range of 12 km. In this respect, the Klinok system is superior to any existing series produced system of this subclass. In addition to the Klinok systems, the 1155 design ship is armed with two batteries of rapid-firing 30-mm AK-630 automatic guns, two guns each, and a radar (the automatic guns may also be controlled from standby sighting trackers).

The 1155 design ship mounts two single-barrel 100mm AK-100 gun mounts as universal naval ordnance. The targe antisubmarine ship also mounts an electronic countermeasures system including detection and active jamming stations and passive jamming generating installations.

AIRCRAFT CARRIERS

The US Navy currently operates 1 5 aircraft carriers (one of which is always in SLEP overhaul): 13 ships of post-Second World War construction (including five nuclear powered) and two "Midway" class ships completed shortly after the war. In addition, an obsolescent "Essex" class ship serves as a training carrier. This total is frequently criticised as inadequate by those who are charged with the implementation of national and NATO naval plans.

Two additional nuclear carriers. Abraham Lincoln and George Washington are under construction with construction funds requested in the FY 1983 programme and two more were included in the FY 1988 budget—to replace Midway and one "Forrestal" class.

It is now planned to maintain a 15 carrier force level through the 1990s. the total not including the ship in SLEP.
