1. Project "Music from around the world".

Student 2: To my mind, music reflects people's ideas and emotions. Music is also a weapon. It fights for light against darkness, for freedom against tyranny, for humanism against barbarity.

Student 3: Music is a soul of each person. So many people, so many melodies. Generations change, and their preferences to music also change. 2. Project "My favourite pop-star"

Student 1: We would like to tell you a few words about the revolutionary figure in the history of popmusic, the king of rock'n'roll. His name is Elvis Presley.

He was born in 1935 in Mississippi. His family was very poor. Elvis loved music. He went to the church every Sunday and sang in the choir. When he was 13, his mother bought him a giutar.

Student 2: One day in 1954 he went to a recording studio called Sun Records. He wanted to make a record for his mother's birthday. The secretary at the studio, Marion Keisker, heard Elvis and told her boss, Sam Phillips. Elvis was Sam Phillips' dream — "a white boy with a black voice".

Student 3: Elvis made his first single — "That's all right, Mama". When disk jockeys played it on their radio stations, American teenagers went wild. In •1 955 Elvis appeared on TV in New York. The following year he went to Hollywood and made his first film "Love me tender". The next years he had many hit records — "Blue suede shoes", "Heart break hotel" and so on.

Student 2: In 1958, Elvis joind the American army and went to Germany. When he returned to the US in the early 60s pop music wasn 't the same. British groups like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were the new stars. Elvis was the millionaire, but he was a very lonely man. In his last years he becarne fat and depressed. He died of heart attack in 1977 in his mansion at Graceland, Memphis.

Student 3: But for his millions of fans, Elvis is still the king. Shan Kyons has got more than 250 albums by Elvis and the videos of all his films. "Man, he was great", says Shan. "Elvis could really sing. Not like these kids today with all their electronic machines. He was the King, man, the King of Rock'n'Roll.
