What Is a Manager?
Managers are responsible for making and carrying out decisions. A personnel manager is in charge of hiring, training and appraising the employees. A financial manager is a person who is responsible for finance. An operations manager coordinates the production of goods and services. A marketing manager is busy with advertising, promotion and sales.
Almost everything a manager does involves decision making. When a problem exists, a manager has to make a decision to solve it. In decision-making there is always some risk. Managing is a responsible and hard job. There is a lot to be done and little time to do it. In all types of organizations managerial efficiency depends on manager’s analytic, administrative and interpersonal skills.
The responsibility of any individual in a company depends on the position that he or she occupies. Managers, for example, are responsible for leading the people who are called subordinates. To do this successfully, they must use their authority, which is the right to take decisions and give orders.
The Medical University of Novosibirsk.
The University was founded in 1935 as the Novosibirsk Medical Institute. The aim of the Medical University is to train medical personnel and managers for medical institutions of all kinds: clinics, polyclinics, medical centers, maternity homes, sanatoriums and so on. I am not going to become a doctor. We are studying Economics and Management in the field of Medicine.
Our University has more than 100 chairs and about 10 faculties. Some of them, such as medical, pediatric and dental ones, are old enough. Several new specialties, such as Economics and Management in the field of Medicine (the one I’m studying!), Higher Education for Nurses or Social Work are also very popular with the students.
Our University is housed in several buildings (blocks). There are well-equipped labs, lecture rooms and libraries, computer rooms and sport complex there. The main building (block) is in the center of the city. A lot of students live in the hostels.
The course of studies at the medical faculties is 5 or 6 years. Students learn how to diagnose diseases, carry out laboratory analysis and treat people. As for us, we are to study for 5 years. The curriculum includes Maths, Economics, Computing, a course of English and others.
To become qualified specialists the students must listen to the lectures, attend practical classes, read a lot of modern scientific literature and have a practical training. They have to pass all the credit tests and exams successfully and pay attention to foreign languages too!

A computer is an electronic machine that can accept, store, process and transmit data using a set of specific instructions, called software. Although the first computers were made in the 40s, we have already seen five generations of them.
Information technology (IT) is a means of providing users with the information they need to perform their professional, educational and other functions as effectively as possible. IT is to perform four functions: collecting data, storing and updating data, processing data, and presenting information. The information provided by the system must be relevant, accurate
