The Institute of Automatics and Electrometry was founded in 1957 among the first of Institutes of Siberian Branch of Siberian Academy of Sciences.
It is situated in Prospekt Koptuga, 1. It occupies a large old building made of concrete blocks. But it had a full-scale repair recently and now looking quite nice and shiny.
Now, it is headed by A.M. Shalagin. It plays the leading role in the field of automation of industrial plants, physical experimental facilities, laser technologies and image processing techniques. Besides, it carries out scientific research in Techniques of virtual reality and multimedia, precise optical Measurements, nonlinear dynamics of coherent phenomena and some others. The institute consists of 16 laboratories, 9 departments and 36 research groups.
Currently developed problems include automation, computer physics modeling, laser researches and software engineering. For example, a newly created complex for forming highly realistic environment with expanded capabilities like out-of-focus areas, weather effects and shading.
The Institute comprises researchers (senior and junior research workers) and lab assistants.
The Scientific council consists of the chairman, the learned secretary and several members, in total number of 25 people.
Institute cooperates with US defence agency, Intel corporation, Kontron corporation, Harvard University, Nsk subway, Defence Agency, by the request of these organizations some major research is made inside our walls.
The papers are published in Russian and foreign journals; abstracts and theses – in specialized periodicals like “Algorithm for building virtual x-ray projections for discrete sets of data” by O.E. Trofimov in Aftometriya; monographs like “Optical spectrum of Hydrogen and Helium –like ions” by A.C. Yacenko.
Currently, I am working at the laboratory of informatics and applied mathematics. The main trends of this laboratory are 3-Dimentional tomography methods and internet search algorithms. I am involved in research of tomographic methods. Now I am doing some theoretical investigations along with computer modeling of objects and performing calculations on this object.
I have decided to join this lab because here I can realize my interests in physics and mathematics.
