5 Configuration and Networking

This chapter introduces configuration and networking application of the OptiX OSN 9500.

Adopting the OCS design idea and integrating functions of multi add and drop multiplexer (MADM) and digital cross connect system (DXC), the OptiX OSN 9500 features flexible networking capability, and is applicable to various topologies including point-to-point, chain, ring, hub and mesh networks.

The OptiX OSN 9500 has a nice compatibility in equipment levels, equipment types and functional boards. You can either have boards at STM-64, STM-16, STM-4 and STM-1 configured in one subrack, or on-line upgrade the network to a higher level.

5.1  Equipment Configuration

Equipment configuration refers to the specific equipment configuration made according to practical networking demands and equipment functions.

5.1.1  Access Capacity

The maximum capacity of the OptiX OSN 9500 equipment depends on the transmission rate, network structure and protection scheme adopted by the transmission network. Among them, the latter two decide the network bandwidth availability and are decided by practical networking mode.

The access capacity of a single OptiX OSN 9500 NE is decided by both the processing capability of the cross-connect matrix and the capacities of respective interface units (IUs). The higher order cross-connect capacity of the OptiX OSN 9500 equipment falls into two types: 2560 x 2560 VC-4s when the system is configured with GXCH board; and 4608 x 4608 VC-4s when the system is configured with EXCH board. GXCL board supports lower order cross-connection.
