2.2.3  Board Software

The board software runs on each circuit board, managing, monitoring and controlling the operation of the boards. It receives the command issued from the NE software and reports the board status to the NE software in terms of performance and alarm events.

Its specific functions include alarm management, performance management, configuration management and communication management and so on. It can directly control the functional circuits in corresponding boards and implement ITU-T compliant specific functions of the NE.

The board software can be classified into the following types:

1.  Optical Interface Board Software

It is the board software operated on the optical interface board. The optical interface board mainly processes the STM-N optical synchronous digital signals and provides interface for connection with the cross-connect board.

Besides function of configuration, the board software processes the SOH, monitors corresponding alarm performance and performs protection switching. Common optical interface boards include JL64, JO16, JQ16, JD16, JL16, JLQ4, JH41, JLH1 and JLHE.

2.  Cross-Connect Software

It is the board software operated on the cross-connect board, fulfilling cross-connection and protection switching in the SDH equipment. Common cross-connect boards are GXCH, EXCH and GXCL.

3.  Clock Software

It is the board software operated on the clock board, responsible for timing function of the SDH equipment. Besides function of configuration, the board software supports the SSM protocol, for example, the JSTG board software.

4.  Orderwire Software

This kind of board software connects the orderwire phones and processes the user data, for example, the JEOW board software.

Along with development of the multi-service access platform, software such as booster amplifier software, Ethernet access software, are added to the board software.

2.2.4  NE Software

Figure 2-7 shows the structure of the NE software.

2.  Communication Module (CM)

This module fulfills the message communication function (MCF) of the functional blocks of the transmission network equipment.

Through the hardware interface provided by the JSCC board, the communication module transmits the OAM&P information and realizes management information exchange between the NM and NEs, and between NEs themselves. It further consists of network communication module, serial communication module and ECC communication module.

3.  Network Side (NS) Module

The NS module is between the communication module and equipment management module. It converts the data format between the user operation side at application layer and the NE equipment management layer, and provides security control for the NE layer. Its functions cover the following aspects:

n  NM command interpretation and feedback, and event reporting to the NM from equipment modules.

n  Interpretation and feedback of the string command of the command line terminal, and event reporting to the command line terminal from equipment modules.

n  NE security management function, which provides NE user management and security control. Through this function, user’s access is limited and the equipment management module is facilitated in data report and routing.

n  Part of the system management functions.

The NS module can be subdivided into three sub-modules in terms of function: Qx interface module, command line interface module and security management module. The specific functions of these sub-modules are as follows:

  Step 1  Qx interface module

n  This module receives the command issued from the communication service module. Then, it segments this command and converts it into NE command.

n  Also, this module records the NM operation command into database for query of the user.
