Each node is required to provide Ethernet services.
The trunk line adopts the 10 Gbit/s bandwidth for the future increase of traffic. All services need network-level protection. Figure 3-1 shows the position of each node and the optical cable distribution status.

Here lists the basic information of the project:
n There is 10 Gbit/s backbone network between central node A and city 1.
n Nodes A, B, C, D and E connect to each other with two-core or four-core fibers.
n Nodes A, B, C and D are responsible for the service convergence and grooming, the fiber among them are 10 Gbit/s. The fiber between D and E is 2.5 Gbit/s.
n A-1, A-2, B-1, D-1, D-2, E-1 and E-2 are newly constructed access nodes.
n Nodes A, A-1 and A-2 can form a ring network of 155 Mbit/s or 622 Mbit/s according to the new route status and traffic requirement. In addition, each of the following groups can form the low-rate ring network: nodes B, B-1 and C, nodes D, D-1 and D-2, nodes E, E-1 and E-2.
n The network management system is in central node A.

3.1.3 Protection Requirement
1. Network-Level Protection Requirement
The ring and chain require network protection with switching time less than 50 ms when there is fiber-cut or optical board fault.
2. Ethernet Service Protection Requirement
The protection can be implemented at the SDH layer or data service layer.
3. Equipment-Level Protection Requirement
