4.2.1  On-line Increase of NE

The adding of NE in the ring network varies with the networking protection mode. Here takes the MSP ring as an example. The operation under SNCP is similar to that of MSP, except the former does not cover protocol enabling/disabling and modification of protection group attribute.

1.  Case Description

The OptiX OSN 9500 supports the increase of node. In Figure 4-4, add a node in a two-fiber bidirectional MS ring comprised of four nodes. Add NE6 between NE3 and NE4.

Figure 4-4 Add a node to a two-fiber bidirectional MS ring

2.  Procedure

 Caution:

(1) The protection switching and switching recovery may interrupt services; therefore, the service upgrade should be carried on during a period of small traffic.

(2) The optical power should be adjusted with the change of transmission distance to ensure the transmitting/receiving optical power is within normal range.

(3) Make sure the status of the multiplex section is normal before performing upgrade.

(4) In upgrade, the multiplex section parameter and protection attribute of each NE should be re-configured or adjusted.

Step

Operations

1

Install hardware in new NE and then perform a test to ensure it works in normal status.

2

Make services between NE3 and NE4 pass through the new NE.

3

Execute forced MSP switching on NM or disconnect the fiber between NE3 and NE4, now, the ring is in MSP switching status.

4

Join NE6 in the ring and connect the fiber, as shown in Figure 4-5. The optical attenuator can be added during fiber connection to adjust the receiving optical power that changes with the transmission distance.

5

On NM, disable the MSP protocol and modify the attribute of protection group of the multiplex section/ring in NE3, NE4 and NE6.

6

Enable the MSP protocol to complete the node increase.

4.3  Upgrade Unintelligent Network to Intelligent Network

Upgrade an unintelligent network to intelligent network through upgrading the software. For the functions of the intelligent network, refer to OptiX OSN 9500 Intelligent Optical Switching System Technical Manual  System Description.

1.  Case Description

The example given in Chapter 3 is an unintelligent network, which can be upgraded to intelligent network through upgrading each OptiX OSN 9500 to intelligent NE.

2.  Procedure

 Caution:

(1) When an intelligent network works with an unintelligent network, the service remains static.

(2) After the upgrade, the existing static services are still unintelligent until they are deleted and re-created again. The upgrade may cause service interruption.

Step

Operations

1

Check the network to be upgraded, and make sure the upgrade software is correct.

2

Load the intelligent software to each NE.

3

Enable the intelligent function of the network.

4

Delete all static services and re-configure them as intelligent services.

5

Check whether the service is normal.
