Instructions

1.     Under Travel, please indicate the name of the person traveling for each visit, for example, Dr. Ivan Sergeev, Moscow to Los Angeles.  If the traveler must take a train/bus/ferry to complete his/her trip, please include that estimated fare as a separate entry in addition to the airfare.  You should check with the airlines or a travel agent to determine an appropriate airfare to request.  Websites such as www.travelocity.com or www.itn.net may be helpful in determining the approximate fares for your proposed travel dates.  Keep in mind that you must travel by U.S. carrier to the maximum extent possible.  The maximum that will be awarded for a round-trip fare will be $2,500.  However, please do not simply request the maximum, as the award will be reduced if it is not reasonable.

2.     Under Living Expenses, please indicate the number of weeks the traveler will stay, and the city in which the visit will take place.  You may request either one or two visits in either or both directions (to or from the United States).  Each individual visit must be at least two weeks in length, and the total duration requested may not exceed eight weeks.  For example, you might request one eight-week visit by your foreign colleague to the United States.  Or, you might request two four-week visits by your colleague to the United States.  Alternatively, you might request to visit your colleague in CEE/NIS for two weeks, then host him/her for two to six weeks here in the United States.

Maximum amount that may be requested for foreign visitors to the United States:

2 weeks  up to $1,750

4 weeks  up to $2,500

8 weeks  up to $5,000

Maximum amount that may be requested for U.S. visitors going abroad:

2 weeks  up to $1,500

4 weeks  up to $2,000

8 weeks  up to $4,000

3.     Under Supplies, applicants may request up to $100 per visit-week for expendable supplies necessary for their research projects. Equipment, including computers and computer hardware, may not be purchased with grant funds.
