The OptiX OSN 9500 provides the JDCU board for dispersion compensation purpose. In long-haul transmission systems, for example, the STM-64 optical interface operates over transmission distance up to 40 km with optical fiber, the optical signals then should be dispersion-compensated.

3.2.10  Power Interface Unit

This unit accesses and backs up two system DC power supplies through the JPIU board, provide electro magnetic Interference (EMI) filtering and protection for them, and provide stable voltage for the fan box. Moreover, it outputs the HUB power.

3.2.11  Key Power Backup Unit

The OptiX OSN 9500 provides the JPBU board for power backup of the maintenance bus (MBUS) module and the boards without equipment-level protection. The optical interface board, JCOM board, JEOW board and BA board are powered independently, but provided with cold power backup. When power failure occurs in these boards, they will be powered by the JPBU board to guarantee normal operation of the service.

The JPBU can provide power protection for three boards at the same time.

3.2.12  EMP Unit

This unit monitors the electromechanical information of the OptiX OSN 9500 subrack through the EMPU board. Its functions are as follows:

n  Provides independent voltages monitoring of the JPIU board.

n  Monitors board temperature and voltage.

n  Reports information of various boards collected by the MBUS to the JSCC board.

n  Intelligently controls and checks the fan rotational speed.

n  Controls the cabinet indicator.

n  Provides audible and visual alarms.

n  Provides 16 alarm inputs, one alarm output, and alarm concatenation.


3.3  System Protection Function

3.3.1  Equipment Protection

1.  1+1 Hot Backup for Key Functional Unit

The OptiX OSN 9500 provides hot-standby redundancy protection for key functional modules. When a fault occurs in the working board, the system will automatically dispatch the services that were preset to be protected to the standby board. This active/standby scheme is 1+1 hot standby.

The OptiX OSN 9500 supports the equipment level service protection for the functional modules below:

n  1+1 hot backup for the general/enhanced high order cross-connect board GXCH/EXCH

n  1+1 hot backup for the JSTG board

n  1+1 hot backup for the JSCC board

n  1+1 hot backup for the JPIU board

n  1+1 hot backup for the GXCL board

n  The power supply system supports two –48 V/–60 V DC working power inputs for mutual backup. The operation of the equipment will remain normal in case a fault occurs in either of the two external power inputs.

n  Centralized backup for the power of optical interface boards, JCOM board, JBA2 board or JBPA board can be realized by the JPBU board.

2.  Protection in Abnormal Conditions

n  Maintenance alarm for abnormity

An alarm will be generated to notify the network monitoring terminal once any abnormality is detected in the system by the hardware or software.

The board software monitors the inter-board communication status as well as the communication channels between the optical interface board and JSCC board, clock board and cross-connect board. It will produce alarms immediately at any abnormity detection.

n  Power supply protection

The equipment provides reverse polarity protection for the power supply. Moreover, there are devices on the JPIU board for protection against overvoltage/undervoltage and lightning, preventing any possible abnormities from damaging the system and power supply.

The system provides all boards with active and standby –48 V voltages and provides the undervoltage protection for some of them, thus to reduce the possibility of service interruption caused by the damage of board power module.

The system can also detect the ambient working temperature and voltage information of the boards through the MBUS unit. Except JPIU, all other boards are hot-swappable and powered by high-frequency power modules in an effective and reliable manner, and provided with overcurrent and overvoltage protection function.

n  Protection against CPU power failure and software reset
