Text.

(1)  In recent many countries are carrying out experiments with computer-controlled transport, both city and suburban.

(2)  Thus Hitachi, Japan, has developed a concept of rapid passenger transit system, so-called PARATRAN which represents a fully-computerised electro train. This unmanned train rolls on nosisoiess pneumatic wheels along a concrete beam.

(3)  The system is designed to facilitate transit of medium distances from 10 to 15 km in new housing districts, airport, areas, etc.

(4)  PARATRAN is able to handle from 5,000 to 10,000 passengers an hour. Its advantages are non-pollution characteristics, passenger comfort, and low-sent construction.

(5)  Computer control provides the “ floating timetable “ which can be changed from hour to hour. Coaches of the train are connected into two units seating 40 passengers each. But during peak hours, up to three such units may be connected to make a single train.

(6)  US Department of Transportation exhibited at Transpo-72 little vehicles – the Personal Rapid Transit Systems, or PRT.

(7)  These systems are designed to carry passengers quickly and efficiently around crowded city areas ,airports, large shopping centres, and university campuses.

1)Many countries are carrying out experiments with computers-controlled transport only for city service.

2) American company has developed a concept of rapid passengers transit system PARATRAN.

3)PARATRAN systems is designed to facilitate transit of medium distance from 10 to 15 km in new districts and airport  areas.

4) “ Floating timetable “ can be changed from hour to hour.

5) PRT passengers  enter a station, press a call button and the transport picks them up within 3 or 5 minutes.

5.Укажите, какой из абзацев текста содержит следующую информацию:

a) The system is designed to work in new districts of the cities and at the airport zones.

b) Coaches of the train can make special units, dusing  rush hours such units can make a single long enough train.

c) The American PRT system in designed to carry passengers quickly and efficiently in the city areas and airports, shopping centres and university campuses.

6. Ответьте на вопрос:

-What is the most important feature of PARATRAN and American PRT systems?

a) They are used to carry freights and passengers

b) They both are computers controlled systems.

c) The systems are used for medium distances.
