Alternative control systems for mechanical transmissions of vehicles, страница 2

We suggest a solution to this problem with a device, which can upgrade existing vehicles to an automatic transmission without serious constructive recasts. In fact, our solution is a System of Automation of Standard Mechanical Transmissions (in what follows SASMT) functioning similar to a semiautomatic transmission but having compared with it a number of essential advantages.

The system is presented as a collection of executive mechanical devices affecting the standard elements of the control of the mechanical transmission combined with an electronic control system managing a collection of detectors on the parts of the transmission control and on executive devices. The system provides automatically a smooth get away from a state of rest when the first transmission is engaged. This operation is a big problem for beginners and is not easy even for an experienced driver in a tough city flow. It also works automatically in further racing of a car. The necessity of switching the transmissions remains but the work with pedals of acceleration and friction is eliminated to zero. This considerably simplifies driving compared with the car equipped with a mechanical transmission especially in a city.

The general concept of the device is presented on Fig.1:

The system includes the following basic elements: electric hydro-transformer, which is embedded into the standard hydro-line of the friction drive; electro-drive of the choker control; a panel of the detectors of the gear level; a block of electronics; the information block indicating the driver on the current state of the system; an electro-mechanical transformer of the speed data which transforms the rotation frequency of the gear of the speedometer into an analog signal. It should be mentioned that for the assembly of   the parts of the SASMT one makes use of standards elements of hydraulics electrics and electronics, which are well represented on the market for accessible prices. The necessity of manufacturing of special parts is reduced to minimum.

Thus as in the case of a semiautomatic transmission SASMT eliminates the work of the friction pedal, making the car drive simpler, but it also allows one to use this pedal for instance when moving out of a road. A considerable advantage of the SASMT is its low cost and simplicity of installation, since in case of the SASMT there is no need to replace the gear-box.  Since the SASMT almost completely consists of plunging devices, which do not require the replacement of any standard detail on a car, it can be installed practically on any car and in case of necessity on other systems with mechanical transmissions, without considerable financial expenses. In addition the simplicity of the SAMST compared with semiautomatic transmissions allows one to tune it up at least partially by a staff without any special qualification, which reduces the service expenses of a car. One therefore can firmly claim that the implementation of cheap SAMST may solve to a great extend the driving problems related with the exploitation of the standard mechanical transmissions.
