Notes:

·  Do not confuse subordinate clauses of time and condition and object subordinate clauses,

e.g.      Mike doesn’t know (what?) when his father will come home. (object clause)

Mike will phone me (when?) as soon as his father comes home. (clause of time)

·  In subordinate clauses of time and condition Future Indefinite (as well as other future tenses) are not used. Present tenses are used instead. These clauses are usually introduced by the following conjunctions:

when               after                before             till/until                       if                      unless 

as soon as       as long as        in case             on condition that        provided that

                  e.g.  I will phone you as soon as I arrive at the station.

                      We shall wait for her till she comes.

·  Object clauses are introduced by the conjunctions when and if and any required tense can be used in them.

e.g.  I wonder if you will join us for lunch tomorrow.

            Catherine doesn’t know whether any of her class-mates will take part in the school chess tournament.

***TASK 56.  Translate into English.

1.  Вода уже закипела? – Еще нет. Не беспокойся, когда чайник закипит, я заварю чай, сделаю бутерброды и принесу это все в комнату. Я тебя позову, когда все будет готово.

2.  Как ты думаешь, кошка не убежит, если мы ее выпустим? – Понятия не имею. Кошка – очень независимое животное. Никогда не знаешь, что она сделает через минуту. Давай не будем рисковать. Если она убежит, у нас могут быть неприятности.

3.  Не ждите меня, если я опоздаю. Мне надо сделать еще несколько дел до нашей встречи, и я не знаю, сколько времени они у меня займут,  поэтому я не хочу заставлять вас ждать. Если ровно в 5 меня не будет, идите к Джейн без меня. Я приду, когда освобожусь.

4.  Какой ужас! У нас испортился холодильник, а я не знаю, когда я смогу вызвать мастера, чтобы его отремонтировать. – Но как же ты будешь хранить продукты без холодильника? – Я понимаю, что если я не буду держать в холодильнике мясные и молочные продукты, они очень быстро испортятся. Но я не знаю, что делать, всю следующую неделю я буду работать с утра до ночи. – Я думаю, я смогу тебе помочь. Если ты оставишь мне ключи от квартиры, я сама вызову мастера и позабочусь о том, чтобы твой холодильник отремонтировали. – Огромное тебе спасибо, вот ключи.
