Questions on Speciality to be asked at the Examination.
1. In what field of science do you specialize?
My field of specialization are physics as Major and Applied Mathematics as Minor. Currently I am involved in a project aimed towards creation of tomographic algorithm with acceptable precision. It is excellent application of my interests as I’ve always been into physics and mathematics. I am doing both theoretical and practical work: making the algorithm to fall into designated error range and shaping of real objects into formulas as well as defining the scanning scheme.
2. At what Institute do you have your practical training?
My practical training is at the Institute of Automatics and Electrometry. This is one of the main institutes of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. Its main specializations are automation of industrial plants, physical experimental facilities, laser technologies and image processing techniques.
3. In what laboratory do you work?
I am working at the laboratory of informatics and applied mathematics. The main trends of this laboratory are 3-Dimentional tomography methods and internet search algorithms. I am involved in research of tomographic methods. Now I am doing some theoretical investigations along with computer modeling of objects and performing calculations on this object.
4. What are the main scientific trends of your Institute?
Its main specializations are automation of industrial plants, physical experimental facilities, laser technologies and image processing techniques. ***********
Our institute is one of the world leading institutes in these fields of science and technology.
5. What scientific problems are investigated in your laboratory?
6. Do you know anything about the contribution of the Institute to world science?
My institute produces many devices which are used all over the world. To name a few: tv-producing plates, modular systems, 3d-scene restoring software, ultrasonic and laser devices for industrial companies.
7. What problem are you working at now?
My task is to create the tomogram recording algorithm that has better accuracy compared to Feldcamp’s which currently is the most commonly used in tomographic devices now.
8. Is it experimental or theoretical work?
You see, mostly my work is theoretical. It includes choosing the object and the scheme of scanning, solving the direct problem, choosing the algorithm for solving the inverse problem, solving the problem itself, and evaluation of obtained results. The goal of my work is to create the tomogram recording algorithm that has better accuracy compared to Feldcamp’s.
9. What equipment do you use in your work?
Because my work is mostly theoretical, I don’t use any specific scientific equipment like complicated tools which are used in experimental laboratories. Therefore all I need only computer, a scratch paper and a pencil.
10. Have you obtained any important data?
I started my investigation recently, so now I am reviewing (getting acquainted) literature related to this topic.
11. Have you got any published papers?
I don’t have any published papers. But in future, results which I’ll obtain are going to be used in several publications.
12. Do you have to read literature on your speciality in English?
Tomography is a very important field of the science and there are a lot of new publications which are not translated into Russian yet. I must be aware of the newest achievements in this field of science, so I have to read in English.
